The Clownbaret International Festival has grown enormously over these 19 years. And it has done so sustainably for the Canary Islands. It has decentralized its programming to reach everyone and program shows with a universal language. It has reached hospitals, centers for people with disabilities, and senior centers with visits from Social Clowns and clown workshops for people with disabilities. We have strived to leave nothing but happiness and laughter in every corner we have visited and, above all, we have conveyed this message through every communication medium we use.
We do this out of responsibility and because our land, where we live, deserves the respect and care that our culture provides. For this reason, the FIC and all of us who make it possible are allied with the necessary strategies to ensure its continued sustainable growth in social inclusion and equality.
The UN approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, an opportunity for countries and their societies to embark on a new path to comprehensively improve the lives of their populations.
The Agenda has 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include the elimination of poverty, the fight against climate change, education, equality, environmental protection and the design of our cities.
Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 10 years.
The FIC aims to contribute to their dissemination by merging the festival with the SDGs.
At the FIC, the safety and well-being of our audiences are our priority. Therefore, we invite you to join the fight against gender-based violence in all its forms. We want a festival free of aggression, where everyone feels safe and respected. To achieve this, we have implemented Purple Information Points throughout the festival. Here you will find the keys to identifying and responding to any situation of gender-based violence. We want the FIC to be an example of coexistence and respect, where equality is promoted and support is provided to those most in need. Your involvement is essential to building a more just society free of violence.
The FIC takes place in different locations, seeking to bring its shows to the public in diverse settings. Pre-existing infrastructure is used to minimize impact on the environment (Teatro Leal, Auditorio Guía de Isora, Teatro Cine Los Realejos, Auditorio Capitol, Espacio La Granja) and, above all, open-air spaces (squares, parks, etc.) where, in addition to taking advantage of natural light whenever possible, special care is taken with the environment, reviewing its final state to leave it in equal or better condition than before the show.
The BioVaso Movement is a circular, direct, and replicable initiative created to replace reusable plastic cups with compostable, waterproof cardboard cups at cultural and sporting events. Developed by TROPIBATT INNOVACIÓN INTEGRAL and with a clear awareness of the impact this waste generates, this movement advocates for a paradigm shift in the relationship between leisure and the environment.
Mobility and transport is one of the great disadvantages that we find in the Canary Islands as an outermost region. In addition to the complexity of travelling to and between the islands, there are also the particularities of public transport in each of them.
FIC maintains efficiency in the transportation of artists by maximising the number of performances per flight. We encourage the use of video calls to reduce the number of trips for coordination meetings, thus reducing the carbon footprint.
Attendees are also invited to come to the event by public transport or to move around the city by bicycle or scooter. This is achieved through the event's social media and the generic communication offered by the festival and our communication team.
The decentralisation of the FIC makes it possible for attendees to walk to the event close to their homes, thus contributing to bringing culture to more distant environments, avoiding the need to travel.
Remember that if you come to the FIC, the Titsa public transportation lines will take you wherever you need to go. You can find all the information at: titsa.com
We communicate responsibly, eliminating printed materials whenever possible. We use the internet and digital technologies to promote and organize FIC 2025, achieving the goal of a paperless event.
We disseminate through digital media an awareness-raising campaign developed prior to the event to improve the efficiency of the measures carried out and achieve a higher degree of success in the printed material reduction targets.
We fulfil the minimisation objectives and encourage attendees to change their habits beyond the event's boundaries.
We would like to highlight that the FIC's social commitment is reinforced by its recent inclusion in the "Culture that Cares" award, a solidarity seal granted by AFES Mental Health. This recognition underscores the festival's work in promoting inclusion, accessibility, and combating stigma in mental health. The collaboration with AFES Mental Health, an organization dedicated to supporting people with mental health issues and their families, demonstrates the essential value of promoting a sustainable and inclusive culture.
The Sustainable Development Goals are in alignment with all these points we have mentioned and are visible throughout the festival's image. In doing so, we succeed in raising environmental awareness among the public.
We also insist on other important aspects such as: the use of the containers we make available to the public, universal access to culture, environmental awareness workshops and equal opportunities for all.
